The World Roma Federation argues that the permanent display of the Roma flag at the European Parliament is a necessary acknowledgement of the significant and enduring presence of the Roma population within the EU. By flying the flag, not only will it foster a sense of inclusion among this marginalized group, but it will also serve as a constant reminder of their unique historical and cultural contributions to European society. The Federation believes that, at a minimum, the Roma flag should be displayed on International Roma Day, mirroring the recognition granted to other communities on specific occasions. For instance, on May 17th, International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, Rainbow flags adorned European Parliament buildings across various EU capitals. Given that the struggle for Roma rights has been ongoing for many years prior to contemporary movements, it stands to reason that fairness demands similar consideration for the Roma community.
