World Roma Federation Raises Romani Flag in Chicago to Mark Roma Nation Day

In commemoration of Roma Nation Day, otherwise known as International Roma Day, the World Roma Federation (WRF) will host a flag-raising ceremony at Daley Center Plaza in downtown Chicago on April 8th at 12:00 noon. The WRF emphasizes the term "Roma Nation Day" to underscore the collective identity and unity of Roma people as a stateless nation. This title highlights the original movement that began in 1971 and reaffirms the Roma people's status as a distinct ethnicity with a rich cultural heritage, irrespective of territorial boundaries.

The flag-raising ceremony will feature speeches that highlight the need for greater awareness and action to address the issues they face. The WRF invites members of the media and the public to join them in this important event.

"We stand united on Roma Nation Day to raise awareness of the challenges faced by Roma communities around the world," said Deny Dobobrov, a spokesperson for the WRF. "Through events like these, we hope to foster greater understanding and solidarity for the Roma cause."
